Auriculotherapy | Auricular Acupuncture | Ear Seeding

The connection between the ear and the body's internal health has been recognized in Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years. Ancient acupuncturists observed that specific points on the ear corresponded to the body's meridians — an insight that would eventually reshape modern integrative medicine.

Initially seen as trivial, it wasn't until the 1950s that French physician Dr. Paul Nogier uncovered a direct relationship between specific ear points and internal organ health. This breakthrough marked a pivotal advancement in the field of acupuncture and transformed auriculotherapy from a historical curiosity into a respected clinical practice and widespread adoption across both Eastern and Western medicine.

Today, auricular acupuncture and ear seeding have become among the most sought-after complementary treatments in New York City. At Hewwing Acupuncture, we offer expert auriculotherapy in combination with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine — providing a gentle yet powerful approach to supporting stress relief, hormonal balance, pain management, and overall wellbeing.

Auricular Acupuncture

Auricular acupuncture or ear acupuncture utilizes tiny needles to activate precise points on the ear. Due to its ease of application, this therapy is available in conditions such as:

  • Recovery from addictions such as drug, alcohol, smoking

  • During IVF treatment, especially on the day of embryo transfer

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder including for military personnel

Ear Seeding

Ear seeding or ear acupressure stimulates the same points as in ear acupuncture but without needle insertion. Instead, small adhesive plasters containing the herbal seed vaccaria are placed onto a number of points in your ear.

For certain clients seeking prolonged relief, we may strategically place ear seeds post-session to extend the therapeutic benefits well beyond the treatment duration. This additional step ensures a sustained impact over the following days, enhancing the overall efficacy of the acupuncture session.

ASP® Acupuncture press needles

What if the benefits of your treatment continued for days after you left the clinic? ASP ear needles make that possible. These tiny semi-permanent needles sit discreetly in specific auricular points, delivering continuous gentle stimulation for extended relief. Particularly effective for PTSD, anxiety, and stress, they are a powerful addition to any auriculotherapy treatment plan.

At Hewwing Acupuncture, ASP ear needles are offered as part of a personalized auriculotherapy treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.
