Meet Dr. Samantha Hewwing
Board-Certified Acupuncturist & Herbalist

Integrative acupuncture and herbal medicine for the whole person
Dr. Hewwing is a Chinese medicine specialist focused on whole-health wellness, treating conditions of pain, fertility, women's and men's health, and adolescent wellness. She combines acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and supplementary therapies to create treatment plans that are deeply personal to each patient.
Her approach
Chinese medicine is inward focused — its emphasis is to cultivate an awareness of the body's internal environment and restore harmony. Its practices include herbal medicine and dietetics, acupuncture and moxibustion, manual therapies such as gua sha, cupping, and tuina, and meditative exercise including qi gong and tai chi.
Western medicine takes a more reductionist approach, prioritizing the diagnosis and treatment of specific, observable symptoms and diseases through data that can be measured and quantified.
Dr. Hewwing unites the depth of traditional East Asian medicine with modern clinical science to create thoughtful, highly individualized treatment plans — bringing the best of both traditions to every patient she sees.
My training
Dr. Hewwing is nationally board-certified in both acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine through NCBAHM (formerly NCCAOM) — a certification earned through rigorous examinations covering Foundations of Oriental Medicine, Acupuncture with Point Location, Chinese Herbology, and Biomedicine.
She holds a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM) from Pacific College of Health and Science, and a Master's in Traditional Oriental Medicine (MSTOM) from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York.
Within the scope of her training, Dr. Hewwing has worked directly with patients in several of New York's most respected medical institutions — The Neurological Institute at Columbia University, Neurological and Orthopedic Rehabilitation and Labor Delivery at NYU Langone Health, Athletic Health and Medical Services at Columbia University. That hands-on experience, working alongside physicians treating real and often complex conditions, gave her a deep fluency in both Eastern and Western approaches to care and a genuine respect for what each brings to the table.
She also holds certification in Kampo — the Japanese tradition of herbal medicine — through the NYC Kampo Institute, and in Shonishin pediatric acupuncture, which informs her work with younger patients.
A little about me
Dr. Hewwing's path to medicine began long before she set foot in a clinic. Her mother was a midwife in Hong Kong, and she grew up in a household where East Asian wellness traditions were simply part of everyday life — maintaining balanced routines, living with the seasons, aligning diet, activity, and rest with nature's cycles, and turning to herbal decoctions when the body needed support. Born in Hong Kong and raised in the United States, that early immersion planted a seed that eventually grew into a lifelong vocation.
What drew her to this medicine is its insistence on treating the whole person — not just the symptom in front of you, but the patterns, the history, and the life circumstances that shape someone's health. That's the kind of care she strives to offer every patient who walks through her door.
At the heart of everything is a belief she has carried since childhood: that health is rooted in balance, and that helping someone restore it is one of the most meaningful things one person can do for another.
