How Fertility Acupuncture Supports Natural Conception

For women trying to conceive naturally, Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine work together to create the optimal conditions for conception by addressing the underlying imbalances that can make it harder to get pregnant. Treatment can help:

  • Regulate reproductive hormones for balanced, predictable cycles

  • Improve ovulation and overall cycle regularity

  • Enhance pelvic circulation for optimal uterine and ovarian health

  • Support endometrial lining thickness for successful implantation

  • Balance the luteal phase to sustain early pregnancy

  • Reduce period and ovulation pain naturally

  • Minimize the impact of chronic stress on hormone levels

Fertility - Natural Conception & Delivery

“My husband and I struggled for many years to conceive.  I am opposed to modern interventions.  Samantha has been the only acupuncturist for me and my husband. After seeing her for 2 months, I finally got pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl. We continued to see Samantha for postpartum and other things. When we were finally ready to try for a second child, I was able to conceive right away and we had no issues!

Three years later, we have two beautiful girls, both conceived and delivered naturally!  Thank you Sam.”

Female Fertility Acupuncture for IUI and IVF Support

For those undergoing assisted reproductive treatment, we typically recommend a three-month preparation phase with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine before beginning medicated protocols. This approach helps regulate each stage of your natural cycle, creating the most favorable conditions and enhancing your body's responsiveness for the best possible outcomes.

During treatment, acupuncture and moxibustion can be used to support your cycle in the following ways:

  • Support ovarian stimulation for better egg quality

  • Encourage healthy follicle development during stimulation

  • Optimize endometrial lining thickness for implantation

  • Support the body's recovery after egg collection

  • Improve implantation success ahead of embryo transfer by enhancing pelvic circulation and reducing the impact of stress and anxiety on uterine receptivity

  • Reduce stress and improve emotional wellbeing throughout the cycle.

‘I can’t recommend Sam highly enough. She supported me through two embryo transfers and two pregnancies—both of which involved complicated circumstances. From the beginning, it was clear how knowledgeable and experienced she is. She worked closely with my doctors’ recommendations and also thoughtfully suggested additional things that could help support the process. What really stands out about Sam is how invested she is in her patients. She takes the time to listen, explain things clearly, and make sure you feel comfortable and supported throughout the entire process. Her bedside manner is wonderful—she is incredibly kind, calm, and reassuring during what can be a very stressful time. She also goes above and beyond in practical ways, including helping navigate insurance questions and working with you to figure out coverage whenever possible. It’s rare to find someone who combines such strong knowledge with genuine compassion and dedication. I’m so grateful for Sam’s support and would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone seeking acupuncture, especially for fertility and pregnancy support.”

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Acupuncture helps by improving blood flow to the reproductive organs, particularly the ovaries and uterine lining. Research suggests it helps regulate the endocrine system, balancing hormones like FSH and LH, and significantly reducing cortisol levels (stress), which is often a barrier to conception.

  • You can begin at any point in your cycle. However, for those tracking their ovulation or undergoing IUI/IVF, we often recommend specific timing around the follicular phase to encourage egg quality and the luteal phase to support implantation. A consultation allows us to map out a plan tailored to your specific cycle.

  • Absolutely. Many of our patients at the Union Square clinic use acupuncture as a complementary therapy to Western ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology). We often provide "Pre and Post Transfer" treatments, which studies show can increase the clinical pregnancy rate by improving uterine receptivity.

  • Because the maturation process of an egg takes approximately 90 days, we generally recommend a treatment plan of 3 to 4 months for optimal results. However, many patients report improved sleep, better digestion, and reduced cycle-related pain within the first few weeks.

  • Not at all. We use hair-thin, sterile, single-use needles. Most patients find the experience deeply relaxing — it is common to drift into a therapeutic nap during the session.
